 Hi Henrik
I got around this problem by embedding the date in the filename and then sorting by filename. That way you can make up you own rules about handling of unknown dates.

 Hi,

In my collection, I have many analog photos I have digitized.
Generally, I have no idea of correct time for when the photo was taken.
In many cases I do not know the year.
In some cases I know the year.
In some cases I know the year and month.
In some cases I know the year, month and date.

I have used Photoshop Element Organizer (PSE14). In PSE14 I can change the date som eg totally unknown - date is shown as ”?” (and placed accordingly in time line).  I can also change to only year etc.

When importing to digiKam (remark, the photos have passed Lightroom), digiKam do not use my modified date as the date. I foresee also same problem with new scanned objects directly into digiKam.

For time being, I have created tags eg in PSE14 eg ”1974” and ”June 1974” so that is imported to digiKam. Same approach can of course be used for new scanning.

But how to adjust date properly in digiKam to reflect what I know about date (and time)?

In digiKam Object - Adjust time and date, I cannot find out any way to change to meet as above. Only full date seems to be accepted.

How (or can I) do I in digiKam change so my dates as above are used as digiKam date (which for example means where they appear in the time line and date in miniatyrs)? Or what is best practice?

Best regards
