[digiKam-users] 7.9.0 release : when ?

Hi all,

All the bundles have been upgraded, and now, as i see fixed,
especially the AppImage (7.9.0 and 8.0.0)

For the Windows installer, the new version cross compiled under Ubuntu
18.04 still has a little bug : when it's installed to replace an older
one, it does not detect the previous install and does not start
uninstaller first. This happens only a first time, as next time that
you install a new version, the installer detects this time the
previous install.

Why ? No idea. I suspected a simplification of NSIS script that I
committed to reduce external dependencies with an extra plugin, but in
fact no. My fix sounds right. The other difference with the new
installer is the NSIS version used and cross compiled too with MXE
environnement (previous version of NSIS come from the Linux distro as
well and was a little bit older). Or, another hypothesis, is a bug
fixed in the NSIS application in the new version used now to compile
the installer.

There is no specific risk to not uninstall digiKam before an upgrade,
especially if the major version number is not bumped (7.7.0/7.8.0 =>
7.9.0 for ex). For the 7.x to 8.x it will be different.

Voilà, we are near a 7.9.0 release that I plan for the first weeks of
december if there is no objection in this room.

So, please test again if you can, and report dysfunctions on your host
system. Thanks in advance

Best regards

Gilles Caulier

Now I suspect a string encoding of the fingerprint saved in the
windows registration database to identify the digiKam already
installed.
