[digiKam-users] Warning: ExifTool is now used to write metadata in files

Hi all,

The digiKam code from git/master corresponding to next 8.0.0, which is
still in beta stage, implements a long time issue to use ExifTool to
write metadata when Exiv2 fails to do the job. Typically, metadata can
be updated in RAW and Video files. Look my test with a MP4 file where
i set a comment with Caption sidebar tab :

There is no option yet to tune this behavior, and for the moment we
don't plan to add this in Setup/Metadata dialog, except if
dysfunctions are found.

The deal of these changes is to close plenty of files in bugzilla :

https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=CONFIRMED&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&component=Metadata-ExifTool&product=digikam&query_format=advanced

So take care to not corrupt your files. Not all regression tests are
done. Test digiKam 8.0.0 on small collection only for testing, not in
production.

NOTE: the next stable 7.7.0 LTS release is not impacted by this change
(typically all bundles)

Best regards

Gilles Caulier
