[digiKam-users] Digikam on NAS with multiple users

I currently run Digikam with both the albums and the databases running on a
Synology NAS using MariaDB for the databases. My wife and I share editing
and tagging tasks, but typically not at the same time.

I know this is not an ideal setup, and performance is poor. In particular,
thumbnail generation and previews are only barely tolerably fast. However,
the setup ensures that both users see all tag, face, and photo editing
changes regardless of who makes them. We have about 200,000 photos.

Questions:

1. Will NAS / shared database / multi-user support be a focus any time soon?
This was discussed as a possible Summer of Code project, but don't believe
it was ever picked up.

2. A bug entry/feature request suggests separating the thumbnail database
from the other databases. This seems more achievable than the many features
in the story for #1, but would likely address the most painful of the
bottlenecks. Is it on the priority list at all?
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297922 - last comment reads, "This bug
has been confirmed by popular vote." from January 2019).

Thank you,

Bryan
