Which OS? For Linux I'd look into exiftool:

I'm using the same strategy:
1890-Historical
  18900125-Granny.jpg
  1920125-GrannysSon.jpg
20181025-Sunset
   20181025-183001-Sunset.jpg
   20181025-183002-Sunset.jpg

You get the idea...
