Not at all.
Sound like an Exiv2 issue which write metadata in image. The face region is
recorded in XMP.
Which Exiv2 version do you use. Look in Help/Components Info for details.
Also, which kind of image ? JPEG ?
Can you provide a sample file, before and after the corruption ?
