I think if 'open with default application' e.g. Windows 10 Photos app works, then you can open with Lightroom etc. from there (from photos app)

yes. under Windows and MacOS, there is no rules available as under Linux to list application installed.
The API used from digiKam to play with external application come from KDE. This only work under Linux.
I already re-routed a bug about to support non Linux desktop, but there is no response about.
To solve this problem we can :
1/ use the native API (Windows, OSX). I know that other Qt application use this way, as for exemple, the excellent Clementine Audio player.2/ Wait a pure Qt solution. Perhaps something exists now with Qt 5.10. I must admit that i don't yet checked this point since a long time.
I prefer the 2/ as it's portable and do not require any specific native langage other than C++ (as objective C for OSX).

Hi there,

yes, I second this.

It kept and keeps me away from changing the default application in Windows 7.

In Digikam with KDE there I have "Open (F4)" and "Open With". "Open with" offers a sub-menu where I could choose from different applications dealing with my photos.

It would be nice if Digikam in Windows would show the same as I have in in KDE.

Thanks

Hi

I have the same understanding, and when I see I need to change the desktop setting I decided to keep it as it is (don't want to open GIMP when willing to see an image)

Dear Frederic,

We have the same problem, but when we use digikam we do not want to use the default application: we would like to select the application at opening time between Capture One, Lightroom, Lightzone, Rawtherapee, with Rawtherapee being the default. Is that feasible?

Best,

got it

       Hi,

is there a plan to introduce an "open with external editor"

       feature?
