Digikam in Ubuntu 17.10

In synaptic make sure to install digikam5 and kipi-plugins5 (I think) . The "5" is important.
As for the menu please try the latest appimage from here first:https://files.kde.org/digikam/Just download it, make the file executable and execute.You can also try to remove digikamrc file from your home directory and see if that helps. You will lose all your configurations so make sure to backup the file first.

Did you also install kipi-plugins?
