Import from other directories fails

Hi all,

is there a way to avoid that digikam, when one wants to import - let's
say - one foto from a certain directory, always looks in all subdirectories?
When I try to import a foto from the users root, digikam starts to look
for and to display pictures from the subdirectories. Then it seems to
crash because even after several minutes it doesn't come to an end. Is
it that digikam even looks at user:~/pictures where itself stores the fotos?
