Lazy sync in 5.6.0

Feels like Lazy syncronization isn't working properly in 5.6.0.
For example, if I select many pictures and assign a keyword or a star rating to 
them digiKam starts writing metadata right away.
The message in the status bar still shows "XXX files await synchronization" 
though.

My settings are:
Lazy synchronization - ON
Update filestamp when files are modified - ON
Rescan file when files are modified - OFF

Can someone take a look?
