Usability issues while deleting duplicates

I'm relatively new to digiKam, so maybe I'm missing something. My goal is
to quickly go through duplicates and delete the smaller images.

After I click Find Duplicates, I click on "Ref. images", then double click
on the first thumbnail. After going with left/right arrow through the
duplicates (let's say there are 5 of them), I press Shift+Delete to delete
one of them.

At this point, digiKam unhelpfully displays "Failed to load image" and
kicks me out of that duplicate set.

What I think makes a lot more sense is to let me navigate with the arrows
through the other images in the set of duplicates, until I delete all but
one.

...

Okay, let's say I try to work around this and look at the images then
shift+select the ones I want to delete, then press Shift+Delete. Again, the
keyboard focus is lost. Instead, it would make more sense to focus on the
next reference image.
