Hi,

It's simple. To manage video as photo with digiKam, just use pre release
5.4.0. This one will have all relevant codecs to play MOV files. No need
extra codecs to install as with 5.3.0.

This version will arrive with more than 140 bug fixes :

https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?f1=cf_versionfixedin&list_id=1411116&o1=equals&product=digikam&product=kipiplugins&query_format=advanced&v1=5.4.0

A precompiled installer for Windows is available in GDrive here :

Note that 5.4.0 is able to generate as wel all video thumbnails under
Windows (and OSX), 5.3.0 was unable to do it, even if extra codecs are
installed on your computer.

5.4.0 Windows installer will also include Exiv2 library version 0.26 which
arrive with more than 200 bug fixes, This version is not yet released.

This library used to manage metadata from files in low level, will be able
to handle better video files.

VoilĂ ... Happy new year.

My best.
