So I got it working in a reasonable time: I made the thumbnail rebuild
in chunks of albums (around 200 albums per chunk) and the program
keeps responsive, showing progress and completing each chunk.
The thumbnail database is growing and it's now 750 MB in size, I'm
running the last chunk.
