I assume you are talking about "Configure digikam" / "Editing Images": 
there are two checkboxes "always show original images" and "always show 
intermediate snapshots".
Any combination of setting this two options to on / off doesn't have any 
influence on my view.

I think if none of the two is selected, then digikam should only show 
the latest version.

Btw. I'm using digikam 3.3.0
