Maybe you could use the "pick labels" as workaround:

1. Browse all your pictures in full screen mode
2. assign e.g. a green "pick label" (ALT + 3) to the images
  you want to export to picasa/facebook
3. leave full screen mode
4. set the filter to only show "green pick labels"
5. select all images
6. export them to the desired destination

You could also use "color labels".
