I get that too but digikam does start up, after a long time with just
the initial digikam splash window showing.
If I shut it down again without it crashing I get another sql message:
(startup)
QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'ConnectionTest' is
still in use, all queries will cease to work.
(shutdown)
QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection
'digikamDatabase-162978536' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.
(These are messages I see when I start it from the console.)

Same here, nfs drive.
I'm also seeing dk crashing every time I try to 'scan collection for
faces'. Seems this is a known bug #286418
