I get much the same thing. It's as if digikam (or maybe at the kde 
level) hasn't finished re-drawing the screen.

For me it's not generally a big problem, more a little annoyance, though 
I have had a time where it just crazily filled random image rectangles 
with their images then reverted to empty rectangles while filling 
another image rectangle, on and on seemingly at random amongst the image 
rectangles visible on the screen.
