I know that problem. It would help a little bit, if digikam could join
one specific tag to another, applying this to all affected photos
(xmp). Often dk would not remove the old hierarchy from xmp, if
exactly the same tag was used for the old and new tag at a different
place in the hierarchy.

Additional dk schould be able to remember the joins of tags for the
next time of import of photos with the same unwanted tag hierarchy and
automatically correct the tag hierarchy in xmp.
