Just checked thunderbird. You're right, my old arcor account still gave 
mymail.ch as my mail-address. Deleted it there, but the irritating bit 
is why thunderbird uses the arcor identity anyway for answers on the 
list. And it definetely was using the spheniscid.net server to send the 
mail, as mymail.ch doesn't exist anymore (the service provider, and my 
mail address with it).
I just can't seem to find a way to stop thunderbird from erratically 
using the arcor identity, short of deleting it, but I can't see any 
pattern in its use either.
But I guess that would be another thread, on another list...
