Are the external devices connected when you launch digikam?

My collections on removable media do not show unless they are
attached. There is a long-standing wish for that kind of support but
it doesn't look like there has been any movement for ages.

It would be great, not just for cds and dvds and removable drives, but
even for NAS devices when your remote from your collection, just being
able to see thumbnails and mark them for later processing.
