Hi Mikel
Fantastic !! it worked !! Thank you very much.
DigiKam Libgphoto2 does not support my Nikon D3100 camera.

Solution: Desktop computer Ubuntu 10.04.1
Launch your Digikam application
Remove storage card from your camera.
Connect your USB card Reader device to computer.
Insert Storage card in USB card reader.
Digikam: click on menu item " Import "
Click on submenu item"USB storage device"
Click on sub sub menu item" USB disk "flash reader""
This opens another window where Digikam will scan the card and display 
the resulting image thumbnails.

This procedure may be obvious to you and other skilled people but for 
someone like me who got his first computer a few years ago at age 60 
without even typing skills , it is different.
Perhaps this solution might be good in the FAQ list at the Digikam website.
