Hi micha,
Not the digikam's theme,change operating system's theme!
I am using PCLinuxOS2010-KDE with digikam 1.4.0.After upgrading to KDE 
4.5.1 had same issue.
Changed KDE's 'Desktop theme' to 'Air' to overcome it.
