Go imediatly to 1.1.0 release. beta5 is too old and a lots of bugs

You cannot compare. In preview mode, RAW can be loaded differently :
JPEG preview embedded (reduced size compared to RAW), or 1/4 raw
demosaiced version. For performance reason, in all case, it's not full
RAW size image.
With JPEG, libjpeg provide a way to load a downscaled version too. In
1.1 release, preview has a label over the image to indicate if you see
a downscaled version. Note that you can change this behavior in
digiKam setup dialog.
Only Editor will load full image size version.
