hi,

for setting coordinates of an image without gpx file, select the picture in
question in digikam, then go to menu "image->geolocation->edit coordinates".
this opens a dialog where you can either enter the coordinates manually or use
a google map to navigate to the location.
however, on my system the google map is usually not drawn immediately as it
should be. but clicking and dragging around with the mouse in the white box
where the map should be makes it appear, and then you can use the map as usual
to navigate to the destination you are looking for.
clicking "ok" then assigns the coordinates to the selected picture. it should
appear as a small cross on the marble widget now.

best,
gandalf
