Bug 146288 (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=146288) is as a request
for face detection and recognition in digiKam. Today, as Gizmodo
liveblogged the keynote of Apple's Macworld, Phil Schiller announced
those features for the new iPhoto. It works as described in Bug 146288:
you ask iPhoto to find faces in a photo, then you tell iPhoto who each
face belongs to, then iPhoto can recognize those faces in other photos.

Before I read the live blog, I hadn't thought of any peace time uses for
facial recognition. I just thought it was something that evil
governments and their police forces use as part of a national
demoralization project. (Yes, I live in the USA. Don't get me started
on the DHS and the TSA, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or Gitmo.)

Now, I think I'd like to have that in digiKam. If it's reliable, it
would make tagging my photos a lot easier. I guess it's on the schedule
for KDE4.
