We put the simple tag in IPTC now and use a private XMP tag for storing the 
full path. This is better for interoperability.

You are right, Pays/Scotland need to be deleted.
This is a known bug and we are currently working on it. The fix will be in 
rc1. See

Well it's normal, we regard what we have in the digikam database as 
determining, if you delete metadata you do not delete tags. Remember it's 
completely optional to write tags into the metadata.
