Good that it works again.
Otherwise removing the configuration file
~/.kde/share/config/digikamrc
should have worked as well.

(Gilles, shouldn't we add a testimonials web page for Digikam,
where we collect this type of great advertisement? ;-)
Surely there are still many things missing from digikam, but
yes, one can do quite a bit with it ...

You may also have a look at krita, because it can do editing in 16 Bit
(which digikam does as well, but krita supports layers and such ....)

Contributions of all kinds are always very welcome, in
particular experience with other software helps a lot to gain
good ideas for future improvements to digikam.
Usually the procedure is that after a question/discussion on
this mailing list ("How can I do ... with digikam?") you get pointed
to an existing wish in the bug-tracker
(See the link at http://www.digikam.org/?q=support
under "Reporting bugs and wishes")
or you are asked to open a new wish there (so that ideas
don't get forgotten, in contrast to mails here)
