Some more info is needed
dmesg -a for starters.
I don't know what program/s digikam uses for slideshow, but you my try some
other sideshow apps like manslide or qdvdauthor, or blender which although
might be a bit much for your skill level has a non linear sequencer that is
unlike any other in Linux.
