Could you give the precise versions of both
- digikam 0.9.x   x=?
- kipiplugins
(see the About information of digikam).

If I remember correctly, there was a bug fixed recently
about image rotations ..

Also note, that this is most likely
a kde-imaging (kipi-plugins) issue, because this is
what is used by digikam for the slideshow.
