I'd love to have that too!

Note that as a workaround you could change between two versions
of ~/.kde/share/config/digikamrc
which contains under [Album Settings]:
Album Path=$HOME/Pictures

So maybe a concept of profiles, corresponding to different
digikamrc files, would be more flexible?
