Yes, this is possible. Just select all of them and confirm a name.

The name's should now be "selected" so if you just type, it is deleted. Works
like Browser address bars on Windows.

This is possible, open a picture for preview and hover it. It's not directly
possible in the thumbnail view because there is no 1:1 correspondance: There
can be multiple faces on a picture. In face mode, there is one thumbnail per
face; everywhere else, one thumbnail per picture
