yes this is must be done :

- Raw  : preview full sized on ==> RAW half size image.
- JPEG : preview full sized on ==> real image size.

- Raw  : preview full sized off ==> RAW embedded JPEG.
- JPEG : preview full sized off ==> reduced version loaded using libjpeg.
