The purpose of the light-table is to compare different images;
so creating a slideshow out of this was never considered.
For the purpose you have in mind, I would recommend to use
multiple selection in the icon view and associate a tag
(Eg. "Slideshow Summer 08") to the selected image.
What is missing at the moment is the possibility to re-order images
of a given tag, see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91562

There is an Export to CD, though it does seem to only allow
a given (physical) album, but not the image associated with a tag.

o, the light-table is just meant to quickly compare images....

In my opinion, putting this into the light-table is not the
right way.
To me the proper approach would be:
- allow tag association inside the light-table to *all* images
(though I suspect that this would be a rarely used feature;
assigning a tag to individual images is already possible)
- allow to re-order images (wish exists in the BKO)
- improve the CD export
(might need a new wish in the BKO)
