Does not sound unreasonable, but:
- I believe I would know how to write a script working on one
  or a sequence of images
- I have no idea how to connect this with digikam...

Where could I learn how to "mess with the desktop files"?
(Sorry if this is a too simple question to be asked on digiKam developers,
but searching on the digikam homepage and google did not help here
and the above link to desktop-entry-spec-0.9.3.html is broken)

Previously it was asked:

For example I don't want to write and compile a C programm
when a simple short shell or python script would be all that is
necessary for the job.

E.g., something very useful would be an export of the list
of all presently selected images (including their full path).
This list, piped to stdin of a recieving programm,
could then be used for batch processing
(Maybe this is already possible now, but I did not find out how).

Best, Arnd
