In fact tags/ITPC/EXIF/properties/...  should be merged. as a user I am not interested
 in the format used to save the information. All of those are just
 attributes of my pictures. Where/how the information is saved should
 be available but it is of little interest for most people. I hope the
 GUI experts aroung agree on this one :-)

Maybe tags as today visible in digikam should be implemented
 as a "bookmark " to an IPTC attribute. (I mean that a tag would be an
 IPTC attribute used more often than others to filter)
