Have you veryfiedthat libexif and libkexif are installed?

You sould get somthing similar of this:
$ ldd /usr/bin/digikam|grep exif
        libkexif.so.1 => /usr/lib/libkexif.so.1 (0x4b16b000)
        libexif.so.12 => /usr/lib/libexif.so.12 (0x45f5a000)
