Ok, my turn, finally :)

I am 23 years old, born in Minsk, Belarus (Soviet Union at the time), but
soon moved to the United States after 2 years on this planet. I began
picking up an interest in computers at a young age and began getting
involved in all sorts of things (website design, programming, computer
animation, open source stuff, linux, etc..) And so, I have been using
GNU/KDE/Linux for 10 years. The commit digest is the largest commitment I
have made to an open source projects so far, and has been a wholly positive
and enjoyable experience :) However, nowadays, I am quite the primitivist
and keep my life simple and my body moving -- using computational devices of
various sorts only when I need to for a specific task.

I studied anthropology-history for some time, cast off the reigns of
academica, and am currently travelling the world working on my first large
project -- an anthropology of life in Belarus during WWII. Little is known
about what occurred there outside of small circles of Belarussian-born
historians and yet in large the war occurred there -- totally
devastating/reconfiguring 90% of the country. My interests have been looking
at how people helped each other, various identity reconfigurations during
the war, life in the forests as partisans/hideaways, and larger
philosophical questions about "we"ness, overlapping singularities
(identities.. jew, christian, russian, fighter, hideaway, etc) and
enclosures (the boundaries and limits of these singularities/identities,
spaces, bodies, and other kinds of spaces/places). I am allowing the focuses
to unfold as I uncover the stories. Currently I am in Israel and soon plan
to go to Belarus.

It has been a pleasure working on the commit digest and I will continue to
help in whatever capacity I can. At the moment, it is reviewing, and I hope
someone else will step up and help Marta with the synopsis once in a while!
:)

health and well being,

Vlad
