Dear Boud,
This is small subset from cases when user would like to have access to
history of edits. The extra command does not deliver this access but
puts a kind of macro on top for on case.

Let 'lost original content' is more general state. Please let's plan
history of edits this or other way at some point if we really want to
invest there (I am advertising this approach for the modern days of
computer hardware).

For now the office software expect some degree of self-awarness from
users: there is File->Versions (e.g. also in Libre Office). Combined
with change tracking it's close to giving the user some control, but
definitely it's not a tool that keep users safe from the " ctrl-s,
ctrl-z, ctrl-z, ctrl-z, ctrl-z, ctrl-z, shit!" class mistakes :)

In addition, I find it unlikely that users do not file bugs for
established software on Mac of Windows - "Open as New" is clearly not
existing there. Consider this as comfortable approach but this is a
kind of measure too. As someone working in user-oriented support for
Open Office for years - I haven't heard this particular complaint.

Not a problem, it can be done...
