amarok won't start

the updates had software to be updated, and software to be installed. it also 
recommended that i run "sudo apt-get autoremove" to remove old, no-longer-used 
linux headers. if that meant that i "removed software" then yes, otherwise no.

when i run the system updates, i include the -f flag, to fix any broken 
dependencies.

once again, through nothing i did myself (that i was aware of), amarok just 
appears to work again...

...which is really frustrating, and one of the reasons i am no longer a 
professional software tester. 8/

i'll keep all these hints, in case it decides to be recalcitrant again in the 
future.
