I agree. Otherwise the plasmoid should be considered buggy and  should not
be added to the default Amarok configuration.

I just figured out how to remove the plasmoid from the context pane, so at
least there is a way without programming that one can stop amarok from
fetching from the network to wikipedia every time a track changes.

But you have to know it's there to be able to remove it. The regular
"settings" menu won't show you anything about it.
