Amarok 2.4.0.90, Clementine 0.6, Various Artists, and iPod

I have managed to build and install Amarok 2.4.0.90 on openSuSE 11.4. Aside
from the change in PluginManager.cpp of s_pluginFrameworkVersion from 60 to
61, my only change to the source was to apply Daniel Faust's patch for
various artists as the bug keeps me from using my iPod with Amarok (
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/amarok/2011-February/032586.html).

Initially I had some problems getting my iPod (an iPod Classic 6th Gen 80GB)
to connect and mount properly to /media/IPOD. That's now working: I plug it
in, the device notifier sees it, I click mount, and it appears at
/media/IPOD. I can see and write to it with gPodder 2.13. Both Amarok
2.4.0.90 and Clementine 0.6 see it (though I haven't yet tried writing to it
with either).

I'm having two problems with Amarok 2.4.0.90, one major, the other minor:

MAJOR: Even with the patch mentioned above, Various Artists still are not
shown grouped in the iPod. Various Artists are grouped properly on my hard
disk, and (when I disconnect the iPod) I see them grouped. They properly
group in Clementine and in an old copy of Amarok 1.4 I have on an old Linux
box.

MINOR: When I click the disconnect device button in Amarok, the mount point
/media/IPOD disappears as expected. However the iPod remains in the device
notifier (albeit disconnect). Nor does the iPod show the disconnecting
notice--it still appears connected though it is not. Unplugging the iPod
starts the disconnecting notice and it functions fine afterward.
Disconnecting with Clementine and Amarok 1.4 show trigger the disconnecting
notice and (with Clementine) the iPod disappears from the device notifier.
