Amarok locks GUI on scanning Ums devices

Its technically impossible for Amarok to lock the plasma desktop due
to anything that's our fault. Sounds like your kernel and system
doesn't handle USB read access very well.

Of course Amarok could lock itself up though. :) But given that it
locks the plasma desktop it sounds like that isn't what is happening.
