No widgets in 2.1!

I had this problem, and it was because I was using Arch Linux and had
kdemod installed, but the Amarok package is built for the standard kde
packages. What distribution are you using?

With 2.0.96 or something the widgets in the central column of the window finally seemed to work more or less as they were expected. But after I upgraded to 2.1 a few days ago no widgets are displayed anymore. Instead there is the default KDE 4 background image (somewhat scaled) and if I try to add widgets by clicking on the green “+” sign an empty list opens up which shows no widgets at all but only a green down arrow and a red close cross.
