[Feedback] enable external MySQL on 2.2-SVN

Hi all,

just tried to figure out how to actually enable MySQL external database  
support in 2.2-SVN. I found out, that there is an undocumented cmake option  
-DUSE_MYSQL=1, but that does not seem to have any effect.

Please advise.
Otherwise, 2.2 is starting to get very close to all day use for me...
