I agree - Amarok is a great offering (also streamripper) SuSE 11.0 mandated you use gstreamer which has no good advantage over xine.   To solve my problem I did download xine-lib, xine-ui and amarok-xine as a rpm (could find it as a source package) and installed.  gstreamer would not ever work properly on setting the audio level.  So, I downloaded amarok 1.4 (for kde 3.5.9) and compiled and installed it.  Now Amarok will work with xine.  Amarok is hard to loose - so group please keep it up.

I tried SuSE 11.1 and it came with Amarok 2.0  and went back to 11.0 because things work.
