Using mplayer codecs to play aiff files

Hi,

I'm currently struggling to get Amarok to recognise AIFF files. If I try and
play one with Amarok I get the message:

"No suitable demux plugin. This often means that the file format is not
supported."

However, I can play the .aiff files fine in mplayer. Is there any way to get
Amarok to use whatever codec is working for mplayer?

For info I'm running Amarok under Kubuntu (KDE 4.1) on an eeepc.
