Amarok and Xine can't play MP3, but VLC and MPlayer can

I have several MP3 files that are slightly corrupted, and Xine simply
pops and squeaks when it tries to play them, but VLC and MPlayer can
play them perfectly. Since Amarok uses Xine, this means that Amarok
also suffers in this way. I have also tried Amarok2 with the Phonon
engine from the Kubuntu team's PPA repository, and it seems to use
Xine as well.

This is a shame. Amarok should be the best, and it should be able to
play them just as well as VLC and MPlayer can.

What is the prognosis for this? Forgive me if I'm simply ignorant of
Phonon's and Amarok's futures, but will Amarok and/or Phonon ever be
free of Xine's problems? I can look at MPlayer's debug output and see
the libraries it successfully plays these files with; why can't Amarok
use the same libs?
