Actually I found it easier for me working with the ubuntu source package.
i.e.
apt-get remove amarok
apt-get source amarok
sudo apt-get build-dep amarok
<modify the amarok/src/Options4.ui file>
dpkg-buildpackage -r fakeroot -b
dpkg -i amarok*.deb
