No, usually it takes less than a second.  If you have thousands of
individually hand-picked directories over a slow wifi link on a SMB
mount, maybe it could take multiple minutes.  Even then I doubt it.

No, apparently the problem is that it actually *is* rescanning for new
files...as soon as one scan ends another begins.  Not that it appears to
be doing it.
