retag files when transferring to media device?

Does your player recognize ID3v1?  When Amarok saves tags, I believe it 
has Taglib save both ID3v1 and ID3v2.4 tags.

Failing everything else, I would use the excellent eyeD3 on the command 
line, along with find -exec (or find | xargs) to mass convert your tags 
to ID3v2.3.  Also complain to your media device maker...
